Basic Life Support, or BLS, generally refers to the type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age.
The contracted Basic Life Support (BLS) provider for the Township of East Brunswick is Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH). They have provided coverage 24-hours a day, 7 days a week for the township since 2019.
RWJUH BLS ambulances also provide inter-hospital transportation as needed serving the RWJUH community. Their EMTs are certified by the New Jersey Department of Health, and receive considerable additional training above and beyond the minimum state level.
