Crystal Springs Family Waterpark sponsors and hosts the Sandpiper Swim Team. The team practices and competes at Crystal Springs and other swim clubs in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties from mid-June through early August. Swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18 years old are welcome.  Registrants must meet the age requirement as of June 30, 2023.

The team will be limited to 100 swimmers comprised of five age groups.   Mandatory team tryouts are held in early June.  All prospective team members MUST be registered for Sandpipers prior to tryouts.

Please note:  All swimmers age 8 years and under must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) continuously and unassisted.  It is recommended that “8 and unders” have a familiarity with the four competitive strokes; free, back, breast, and butterfly.  Swimmers 9 years and older must be able to swim two lengths of the pool unassisted and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the four competitive strokes. United States Swimming rules and regulations are used for the summer swim season.

The competitive swim season is only five (5) weeks long.  All swimmers are expected to participate in all ten (10) meets and must practice at least three (3) times a week to participate in the next meet.  Practices will be held in the evenings daily from 5:45 pm – 8:15 pm.  Meets are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:45 pm – 8:00 pm and will be SWIMMERS ONLY unless otherwise noted.  Team suits and caps are available in early June at an additional cost.   All swim meets are administered by the Sandpiper Parent’s Association.

The team cannot be run effectively without the cooperation of all of the parents. Over the course of the season, all parents will be required to assist at dual meets and are encouraged to take an active role in fundraising projects. Parents should encourage their swimmers to attend appropriate practices and meets and offer support and encouragement throughout the season. Parents are required to attend a pre-season meeting to sign up to work a minimum of four meets during the season.   Job assignments include meet officials, timers, and/or recorders.

In order to enter Crystal Springs individuals MUST be at least 13 years old.   During Sandpiper practices and meets swimmers are under the supervision of the Sandpiper Coaches.  If an individual Sandpiper wishes to enter Crystal Springs, who is under 13 years old, they MUST be accompanied by an adult.  Adults and/or Sandpipers MUST either have a Crystal Springs Season Pass or pay the daily rate to enter Crystal Springs at any time that is not Sandpiper related.

The best way to find out more information about our team is to check the website, https://www.sandpiperseb.com. During the season the website is constantly updated with important announcements, meet entry deadlines, volunteer sign-up, and schedule changes so it is important to check it often.  You can also e-mail the President of our Parents Association with any additional questions at sandpiperseb@gmail.com.
