Community CrimeCam
Video surveillance continues to be one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects who are caught in the act of committing a crime. Many business owners and residents currently operate surveillance systems at their businesses and/or homes. As crimes occur nearby, they are not always aware that their system may have captured information that could help solve the crime, thus keeping our community safer. In turn, the police are also not always aware who may have this potentially vital information.
The East Brunswick Police Department (EBPD) has created the Community CrimeCam Program which is a voluntary community safety initiative that allows both businesses and residents to partner with EBPD in the fight against crime throughout the Township. Residents and business owners will now be able to register their surveillance system with the EBPD and immediately become an invaluable asset in solving crimes in their neighborhood.
When a crime occurs in a neighborhood, the EBPD will call you and request a copy of the video footage. This footage will help establish leads, identify suspects and save valuable investigative time. All registered camera locations will be stored in a secure database allowing the EBPD to map out locations of cameras throughout the town. Residents and Businesses will only be contacted by the EBPD in the event of a crime occurring in the area of their camera coverage.
This program is entirely voluntary and consent to view video footage from your camera could be withdrawn at any time. The EBPD will not request to tap in or access private video surveillance cameras. The program is not intended for active surveillance or monitoring of surveillance cameras.
If you would like to tell us that you have video surveillance and allow Officers to contact you should a crime occur in or near where your cameras are installed, we kindly ask that you let us know by filling out our online registration form or downloadable registration form (PDF).
