Sewer Utility & Maintenance Overview

The Sewer Utility operates and maintains the sanitary sewage collection system consisting of 170 miles of gravity mains, 14 miles of force mains and 20 sewage pumping stations.

Monitoring the Wastewater

The system collects and conveys wastewater to the Middlesex County Utilities Authority's treatment facility in Sayreville, New Jersey, through three metered connection points that are continuously monitored for flow and various wastewater characteristics.

In addition to weekly monitoring and maintenance of the sewage pumping stations, Sewer Utility and Maintenance personnel use specialized jetting and root cutting equipment, as well as TV monitoring, to maintain and improve system flow to assess pipe conditions and detect potential problem areas.

Underground Utility Mark-out Requests

Also part of the New Jersey One-Call System, maintenance personnel must respond to underground utility mark-out requests.
