The East Brunswick Municipal Court is part of the New Jersey State Judiciary. As such, we are independent from the legislative and executive branches of government. We are a court of statutory jurisdiction having authority to hear and dispose of:

• Violations of motor vehicle and traffic laws.
• Violations of municipal ordinances.
• Disorderly persons offenses, petty disorderly persons offenses and other non-indictable offenses except where exclusive jurisdiction is given to the Superior Court.
• Violations of the fish and game laws.
• Proceedings to collect a penalty where jurisdiction is granted by statute.

In addition the Municipal Court:

• Holds arraignments on indictable offenses which are forwarded to the County Prosecutor for disposition.
• Conducts a community dispute resolution program.
• Authorizes the issuance of complaint warrants.
• Issues search warrants.
• Hears motions to suppress evidence.
• Handles any other proceedings where jurisdiction is granted by statute.
